Books are amazing items. They transport us to faraway places, teach us about world history, introduce us to the beauty and complexity of language.
They’re also disappearing. Idle time is easier spent scrolling through Facebook or playing video games on our mobile phones.
Together, perhaps we can change that.
Ask For Books was created while we (Matthew and Brittany Anderson) were living with our three boys in Budapest, Hungary. We created the site to help encourage others to take a step away from our materialistic gift-giving (and receiving) culture and return the focus to things that matter more. For holidays, birthdays and many other gift-getting occasions, we’ve begun to ask for books instead of toys.
As homeschooling parents who teach through books, we’re well-acquainted with the power of books. There are so many great reasons to ask for books instead of cards or presents.
We hope you will join with us in this exploration of the joys of giving, receiving — and of course reading — more books, and even drop us a line to share your reasons!
Cheers,
The Anderson Five
