Welcome, book lover!
We’re thrilled that you’ve decided to embark on a more book-centered — or at least book-conscious — way of living! Here’s what content you’ll find on this site and how to make use of it:
Suggestions collections
One super-useful bit of content at Ask For Books is suggestions collections. They’re hand-picked lists of books designed to be shared with your family and friends when you’re requesting books in lieu of cards or presents for special occasions. We’ve started with a focus on babies and kids (think: showers and birthdays), and we’ll be adding suggestion lists over time.
Think of these suggestions collections as ready-made wish lists, saving you time and effort. (Of course, you could also use them to find ideas for items to add to your own custom wish list at a site like Amazon or Target. Indeed, all the books suggested conveniently include links to the product on Amazon.) Offering pre-made suggestions list can also be a gentler way of encouraging your family and friends to give books, when perhaps a personal wish list would seem too direct or demanding.
How to and why
In addition to lists of book suggestions for specific occasions, you’ll also find posts here to help you articulate why you would like books instead of cards and how to (politely) share that preference with family and friends.
