I had never heard of a baby “sprinkle” until doing research for this article on book request wording. Apparently it’s a thing, and I gotta say, I love the name.
As I understand it, while a shower is customary for new moms, just a sprinkle is what you have for their subsequent births — those seasoned moms in the trenches who don’t need a deluge of baby gear this time around, but whom you still want to gather around to honor and celebrate.
Now, if I may, I’d like to suggest that the perfect sprinkle gift has got to be a book. (You knew I’d say that, didn’t you? This site is, after all, all about the books.) Here’s why books are the perfect gift for a baby sprinkle:
- They don’t take up much space.
- They’re inexpensive.
- They’re fun and easy to buy.
- They’re portable.
- They offer a vastly preferable alternative to television, video games and other tech, especially for young children. And noisy toys — definitely preferable to noisy toys.
- You can never have too many. Go ahead and try. I dare you!
Books truly are the perfect gift for a baby sprinkle. (Forgive me. I just wanted to say “sprinkle” again.)
